Open Letter to Vice President Kamala Harris
Prior to her visit to Vietnam late August 2021
H.E. Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States:
This letter relates to your upcoming visit to Vietnam late this month. Instead of giving forth my own view on that trip, I'd like to re-produce some unknown quotes I found on some websites of the American Social Security Administration.
1. “There are moments when, even to the sober eye of reason, the world of our sad humanity may assume the semblance of a Hell... Alas! the grim legion of sepulchral terrors cannot be regarded as altogether fanciful -- but, like the demons in whose company Afrasiab made his voyage down the Oxus, they must sleep, or they will devour us -- they must be suffered to slumber, or we perish.”
This quote mentions about "demons" and "the grim legion of sepulchral terrors." I'm not sure whether those terms refer to those racist bureaucrats of the American Social Security Administration or to the Communists (or to both?).
2. “The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by otherwise good people. We will have to repent in this generation, not only for the evil words and deeds of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of otherwise good people. Evils persist whenever otherwise good people fail to answer the why question.
The second quote definitely refers to those who condone and/or nurture racist and communist violence, repression, and other anti-human atrocities out of apathy/cold feet/self-interest or for the sake of economic interest.
Besides, an American saying goes, "If you cannot beat them, follow them." The United States never won the Communists. Since the end of the Vietnam War, it followed China to keep afloat after stabbing the South Vietnam regime in the back, being solely responsible for China rise and expansionism. Major American corporations have been making rich in China, including Microsoft, Apple, General Electrics and many more. Washington never says what it means and never means what it says – cynical rhetoric.
Sincerely,
Văn Minh Trống Đồng
